Health insurance 2026: find your cheapest deductible

Compare every approved basic-insurance premium for your postcode — and see which deductible really costs you least once your expected medical bills are included.

The Federal Office of Public Health publishes the 2027 premiums at the end of September. This calculator switches to them as soon as they're released — until then it shows 2026 premiums.
Health insurance

Compared against every approved basic-insurance premium for 2026, published by the Federal Office of Public Health.

Age group

How the calculation works

  1. 1Premiums: every approved offer for your premium region, age group and accident cover, from the official FOPH data.
  2. 2Out-of-pocket costs: your deductible plus the 10% co-payment (capped at CHF 700 a year for adults, CHF 350 for children), based on the medical costs you expect.
  3. 3Total cost = 12 × premium + out-of-pocket costs. The lowest total wins — not the lowest premium.

Good to know

  • Basic insurance must accept everyone, with no health questions — and the cover is identical at every insurer.
  • The highest deductible (CHF 2'500) usually pays off if you expect few medical costs; with regular treatment a low deductible is often cheaper. The calculator shows where your break-even lies.
  • Family-doctor, HMO and telemedicine models cost less because you first contact a set point of care (emergencies excepted).
  • Supplementary insurance is separate: it has its own notice periods and may ask health questions. Don't cancel it before a new insurer has accepted you.

Deadlines

  • 30 November: your notice (to switch insurer or lower your deductible) must reach your current insurer. Send it by registered mail.
  • 31 December: last day to raise your deductible for next year.
